Negligent Nurse cuts finger of baby in Kolkata
An infant was hospitalized with respiratory complications at Institute of Child Health, Park Circus, Kolkata, when negligence resulted in blunder due to a nurse on duty. She was trying to take away the tape attached to the finger of the right hand and accidentally sliced off the finger of 28-day old infant girl.
The child was facing difficulty in breathing soon after she was born on Feb 21. Family physician has recommended her parents to hospitalize the child.
Parents of the child, Babu Ghosal and Paromita told the sources that hospital authorities had not timely informed them about the incident. Doctors in the hospital suggested an operation of the child to rejoin her finger; at the same time they insist them to sign a bond enclosing that hospital authority will not be responsible for any mishap during operation.
Hospital authorities reported that the nurse had made the confession before the authorities regarding this accident and had also regretted for the same. Her mistake is rueful and calls for an immediate action.
Authorities communicated that a committee will be created to verify the grounds of this episode, and for the time being, she had been suspended.
No one should be allowed to take phone calls during their duty hours but an eye witness reported that this nurse was busy in telephonic conversation with her boyfriend when she conducted this mistake.
However, child's parents have launched a complaint against the hospital and the nurse for behaving irresponsibly towards their child.
