London  - Liverpool will be without Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres for Saturday's trip to Sunderland, it was confirmed on Friday.

Gerrard, Liverpool's captain, suffered a groin injury in England's World Cup defeat to Ukraine last weekend and subsequently missed the home win against Belarus.

Torres also suffered a groin injury on international duty for Spain, and was an unused substitute for their final group match on Wednesday.

Forward Dirk Kuyt, though, should recover from a knock picked up while playing for Holland.(dpa)
