Ex-Brit Home Secy apologises for claiming hubby''s porn film expenses
London, Oct 13 : Ex-British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has said sorry to the Commons for wrongly claiming 116,000 pounds in second home allowances, which included porn movies watched by her husband.
However, critics are furious after MPs refused to order her to repay a penny.
Smith was investigated after claiming her main home was her sister''s house in London, which enabled her to make second home claims on her constituency home in Redditch, Worcs, where husband Richard Timney and their sons lived.
But a report by Parliament''s investigator John Lyon maintained yesterday that Redditch was her main home.
"Ms Smith clearly breached the rules of the House by wrongly designating her main home from 2004 to 2009," The Sun quoted the Standards and Privileges Committee report as saying.
The report also alleged that Smith claimed more than 550 pounds for her cable TV and broadband package - including blue movies watched by her husband.
"I want to say sorry to my constituents. They''re my number one priority," said a teary-eyed Smith.
The report said "no further action" was required as Smith had repaid 400 pounds and had also asked Commons officials for advice in 2007.
Susie Squire of the Taxpayers'' Alliance said: "The punishment does not fit the crime. She''s been found guilty by her peers of making inappropriate expense claims and should repay the money." (ANI)
