Allegations Against Me Are Baseless, Says Pratibha
NEW DELHI: Referring to the slew of allegations hurled against her, UPA presidential applicant said that all allegations pointed against her were ‘motivated.’
In her initial official declaration after her nomination documents were found to be in order, Ms. Patil stated it was a “distinct honor” to be a applicant for the main office of the world’s prime democratic system.
Wednesday was the last day for withdrawal of electioneering. Ms. Patil will enlist Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in a direct race on July 19.
Ms. Patil said, “I wanted the votes of the electoral college in a spirit of humility. Under no circumstances should the campaign directly or indirectly demean the dignity of the highest office.”
The allegations hurl against her by the Bharatiya Janata Party, she told, “In my over five decades of public life, I have always endeavoured to be true to my conscience. All the allegations against me are motivated and have already been answered.”
Ms. Patil said that if chosen she would release her obligations and duties consistent with the constitutional scheme and conventions established by her illustrious and great forerunners.
While releasing the proclamation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said Ms. Patil would poll much more than the 5.75-lakh-plus votes the ruling coalition and its supporting parties have.
