Motorola ties up with Time Warner Cable for “Follow Me TV”

Time-Warner-MotorolaThe manufacturer of digital video recorders just for the consumers of United States - Motorola has announced that it has tied up with the cable television company - Time Warner Cable to develop a multi-room digital video recorder (DVR) solution based on Motorola tru2way set-top software, in the United States.

The Schaumburg, Illinois based Motorola has stated that the multi-room DVR solution, "Follow Me TV" will be deployed by Stamford, Connecticut based Time Warner Cable, which operates in 27 states and has 31 operating divisions, later this year. It will make Time Warner Cable first cable operator to deploy a multi-room DVR solution in a tru2way environment.

According to Motorola, it has developed the multi-room DVR solution, "Follow Me TV" working work with tru2way software running on its DCX3400-M and DCX3200-M tru2way-enabled set-tops. "Follow Me TV" will allow the subscribers to access, share and place shift video recordings throughout the home. The multi-room DVR solution develops multimedia network making use of MoCA (Multimedia over Coaxial Alliance) technology and using existing coaxial cable in consumer homes. The network is capable enough to transport high-definition video, high-quality digital voice, and high-speed data to televisions, DVRs, game consoles, wireless access points, and home computers.

Larry Robinson, Motorola's Home and Networks Mobility business VP, product management, said, "Motorola's tru2way technology is a key enabling component of media mobility as demand for new, broadband-connected devices in and around the home grows. As an open specification, tru2way enables the set-top to be a platform for new media mobility applications such as whole-home DVR. This industry-leading collaboration will help Time Warner differentiate its offerings, retain customers, and increase revenue opportunities."

Louis Williamson, Time Warner Cable senior fellow, engineering, said, "Consumers expect more flexibility and control with today's premium TV services and we are excited to be offering the whole-home DVR with Motorola. This is the first OpenCable tru2way system with home network extensions. It is fully interoperable, providing Time Warner Cable more flexibility and choice in determining what equipment is made available in its footprint."

The digital video recorders have dramatically grown in popularity in the recent times. That is why several companies have focused themselves on multiroom DVRs nowadays. Time Warner Cable is also reportedly tied up with Cisco Systems to develop new multiroom DVRs. Cox Communications and Bright House Networks are also said to be working with Cisco on multiroom DVRs.
