London  - UEFA confirmed on Thursday it was considering a request from Liverpool to reschedule a Champions League game so it does not fall on the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

If Liverpool beat Real Madrid in their last 16 tie, the second leg of their quarter-final is due to be played on April 15.

A memorial service has been scheduled for that day to remember the 96 people who died following a crush at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool would like the game moved forward a day to allow players to attend the service.

"We have received a request and we will try our best to accommodate it, but we cannot guarantee at this stage that we will be able to," a club spokesman said. (dpa)
