Prague - The Czech Republic's presidency of the European Union said Monday it is ready to call an international donor conference that would address "urgent humanitarian needs" in the embattled Gaza Strip.

"The Czech Republic is prepared to assume this task as soon as possible," the presidency said in a statement.

Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg was following the humanitarian situation in Gaza "with increased concern", the statement said. (dpa)
