‘Gulabi Talkies’ Bags Best Film Award, Umashree Is Best Actress
Girish Kasaravalli directed ‘Gulabi Talkies’, a film based on a short story written by renowned feminist Kannada writer Vaidehi, has won the best state film award for 2007-08, while its leading lady, Umasri got the best female actor award for its superb performance in the film.
The jury selected the yet-to-be released Ramadas Naidu’s ‘Moggina Jade’ and Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar’s ‘Mathad Mathad Mallige’ for the second and third best films respectively.
Puneet Rajkumar has been adjudged as the best actor for his performance in ‘Milana’ and ‘Banada Neralu’ has been given the Special Film Award of Social Concern.
The lifetime achievement award went to Smt. Parvarthamma Rajkumar.
Actor Vishnuvardhan has been conferred with the high-status Dr. Rajkumar Award, and director Renuka Sharma has been honored with the Puttanna Kanagal Award.
S.P. Balasubramanyam and Vani have been given the Best Playback Singers Awards for the films “Savisavi Nenapu” and “Inti Ninna Preetiya”, respectively.
While declaring the awards in 28 different categories, Mr. Katta Subramanya Naidu, minister for Information and Publicity, stated that the winners had been chosen carefully after the award selection team, led by award-winning director Kesari Haravu, looked out 46 films.
As the film Ee Bandana’s print was not made available on time, that’s why the panel could not view the movie, the minister added.
Ekalavya, directed by Baragur Ramachandrappa, was selected for the award as it was fairly better than other entries.
The producers and directors of the top three award-winning films will be presented a cash award of Rs 1 lakh and 100-gm gold medal. The director and producer of the second best films will be presented Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively plus a 50-gm silver medal each.
The winners of Puttanna Kanagal award, Dr. Rajkumar award and life-time achievement award will be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a gold medal. The Best Actor award carries a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and a 100 gm silver medal each.

Best screenplay-Girish Kasaravalli (Gulabi Talkies). Best dialogues-Agni Sridhar (Aa Dinagalu). Best photography-H.C. Venu (Aa Dinagalu). Best music director –Sadhu Kokila (Inti Niinna Preetiya). Best sound engineer- N. Kumar (Accident). Best editing- Suresh Urs (Savisavi Nenapu). Best child artistes- Likhit (Naanu Gandhi) and Prakruti (Gubbachhigalu). Best art director- G. Murthi (Kurunaadu). Best lyricist- Gollahalli Shivaprasad (Mathad Mathad Mallige).
