New Zealand may ban Neem Toothpaste if toxins are found: Medsafe

Neem ActiveNew Zealand's Ministry of Health has issued a statement that tests are being conducted on Indian toothpaste which has been banned recently in Canada. The toothpaste was banned by Health Canada after harmful bacteria and diethylene glycol (DEG) was found in many samples. Young children usually swallow toothpaste during brushing and this can result in problems with digestive system. DEG is used as a solvent and also in antifreeze. If ingested, it can cause nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness and many other problems.

Neem Active is produced by Calcutta Chemical Co. Ltd. having its manufacturing facility in India. The warning of Canada Health stated that ingestion of toothpaste can result in fever, infections of urinary tract and gastrointestinal problems. The company has not made any comments on the issue.

Medsafe from New Zealand has informed that 16 samples of toothpaste from China were tested and were having toxic chemicals. Action will be taken against all the brands having toxins or bacteria. Neem brand was available on many stores across New Zealand.
