New York plans gigantic wind park
New York, Dec 15 - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg plans to build a gigantic wind park off the coast of the city, according to a report in The New York Times Monday.
The park could cost $4.3 billion and could become the largest of its type in the world - but still only cover 1 percent of the Big Apple's energy needs, according to the report.
But the city is also taking other steps to clean up carbon emissions, including encouragement to improve home insulation.
To build the park, Bloomberg would have to overcome growing opposition by wind park opponents, who believe the large wind mills disrupt the view of the ocean. (dpa)
