New crisis in Pakistan cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seems to be surrounded by lot of troubles these days. Earlier the board was fighting with the threat of Champions Trophy being moved out of the country. Now Nasim Ashraf has withdrawn from the post of the president of PCB.
The fate of the tournament was hanging in between till late Monday night, while ICC and PCB officials were not sure about the status.
An ICC official said, “As of today, the tournament is on and it will be held in Pakistan. However we can’t say about tomorrow. We will not speculate.”
But it has been learnt that, in United Kingdom, the ICC delegation will hold meeting with top England and Wales Cricket Board officials today. However the reason for the meeting which is being delegated by ICC’s CEO Haroon Logart is not known.
The ICC officials who already have given presentations to England and South African players regarding the security arrangements for the bi-annual tournament, have failed as the players are still not convinced.
An ECB spokesman informed, “We’ve not yet taken a decision about our participation. We will decide after tomorrow’s meeting.”
Other than this, a PCB official has also expressed doubts about the tournament. PCB’s Shafquat Naghami informed on Monday evening, “At this point of time we are going ahead with our plan for the tournament. We though can’t say about future.”
