Net direct tax collections up 25.5% in Sept
The net tax growth by center government registered a growth of 25.51 percent in the month of September. Rs 62,788 crore were collected as compared to Rs 50,025 crore in the corresponding period last year. The growth is witnessed due to starting of an advance tax installment during the month of September.
The latest data released by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) showed that net direct tax collections grew 32.54 per cent for the first half of the current fiscal. It is, however lower than the last year growth by 40 per cent. A CBDT official said that the collection growth is lower due to rationalization in income slabs and hike in exemption limits for individual category taxpayers. The decrease in non-corporate advance tax and stock market condition also contributed in lower collection.
Growth in corporate tax deducted at source (TDS) remained above 52 per cent and registered Rs 30,810 crore by September 30. Self-assessment tax paid by both corporate and non-corporate taxpayers registered a growth at 111% and 71%, respectively.
