'Mythological characters are unforgettable'
Remember the pious and virtuous Lord Arjun, the mythological character from the serial with the same name, who stole many a hearts with his adroit handling of the serious role? If you liked him, aka Sandeep Mohan then, he's once more set to steal your hearts with a new role after ventures like Shri Krishna, Indra in Vishnupurna and in Shri Ganesh. This time Mohan will don the mantle of Sri Swaminarayan's father, in the Moti Sagar mega venture — Shri Swaminarayan Bhagvan.
Mohan was in the city to promote the show. “I will be playing the father's role in the series. My other project includes working for Upanishad Ganga by Dr Chandraprakash Trivedi.”
And does it imply that Mohan only works for mythological roles? “No”, he says, explaining later that he had also worked with Ekta Kapoor for Kkahi Kisi Roz and Dharma Putra for Doordarshan. However, the actor thinks he is better recognised as a mythological character since these series keep repeating on any channel even after the actual show is over, for example Shri Krishna, which is still being aired on Star Gold and people watch it with the same devotion, he said.
But, if mythological characters are his selling point, aren't these serials followed by a certain genre of people only we asked, to which he replied, “Well, to an extent all serials have a set target group. However, there are a few serials which are liked and watched by all such as the reality shows which are entertainment for the entire family. Likewise Sri Sai Baba and Jai Sri Krishna also enjoy good viewership, so now we do get complete package in mythology too.”
A decade into the industry, Mohan still feels theatre to be closer to his heart. “Theatre will always be my first love. I started with a theatre academy in Delhi and am still a part of it. The thrill that one gets on the stage cannot be matched by any other forum,” says the veteran who has also been featured in ads for LG mobiles and Toyota.
