‘My early work was a pile of crap,’ says Katie Melua

Sept 20 : British singer Katie Melua thinks that her early musical work with mentor/composer Mike Batt was ‘a pile of crap’.

Melua, who collaborated with Batt for making albums such as ‘Call Off The Search’, ‘Piece By Piece’ and the forthcoming ‘Pictures’, asserted that she learnt a lot while working with her mentor.

However, the 23-year-old star insisted that her old work was not up to the mark and she wants to move on with her career creatively now.

"I have been learning all the time. There were things I thought were so great at the time but when you look back it was a pile of crap, so I am glad I listened,” Contactmusic quoted Melua, as saying.

But I have been growing as a creative person, and the music I am making now is quite different from Mike's," she added. (With inputs from ANI)

Reaction from Katie

“What I actually said was that I have been learning all the time, that
when I first started writing I would think a song I’d written was great
and I’d hope that it would be on the album, but that in hindsight it
was crap and I am glad that I listened to people around me. Those
“crap” songs never saw the light of day, thank God!”
