MPAA accuses Google of leading to pirate sites

MPAA accuses Google of leading to pirate sitesThe Motion Picture Association of America has said that the Google's search engine sometimes leads the users to pirate sites that violate rights of the content owners.

The new report from MPAA's was released as the Commerce Department considers ways to help the private sector to voluntarily combat piracy. The MPAA, which represents major motion picture studios, has said that all the players on the internet would be required to play a fair game to combat piracy.

The latest study found that out of all the all infringing URLs that were found on the internet, about 82 per cent came from Google. The report indicates that if Google does not address the issue soon, the matter might be taken up by the law enforcement agencies.

"This study shows that there is much more that search engines must do when it comes to pointing consumers towards legal outlets. By supporting legitimate sites rather than illegal ones, everyone wins - content creators, the U. S. economy, and consumers themselves," Rep. Adam Schiff from California said in a statement.

Google has not offered any comments on the matter.
