Most Couples delaying family due to high housing prices According to a new report, a majority of the couples are delaying starting a family due to the prevalent high prices of houses in the UK. The number of couples that said high housing cost was the reason for delaying the family, has risen by 65 per cent from just here years ago. About a fifth of the people aged between 31 and 44, who do not have any children, cited high housing prices as a reason for the delay in starting a family.

Most people believe that rented accommodation do not offer enough security for starting a family. A charity, Shelter found in the latest survey that 26 per cent of the people who have been putting off starting a family are doing the same since five years. The report pointed out that about a million people could be delaying starting a family due to high housing prices.

The research found that about a third of all the first time buyers are aged over 35. It is believed that restriction of higher loan to value mortgage lending is preventing new buyers with small savings. The banks in the UK are being cautious and are lending to customers with larger deposits in order to avoid risks.

The government is aware of the situation about the challenged being faced by first time buyers and has taken steps to address the problems. The government has launched a NewBuy scheme for people looking to buy a house for the first time. The scheme provides 95 per cent loan-to-value mortgages.
