Monsoon in 2-3 days in Tamil Nadu and KarnatakaNew Delhi, May 31 : Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declares onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala today.

A press release from the Department declares this in view of strengthening and deepening westerly flow over Arabian Sea and south Peninsula, presence of an off shore trough and an East-West shear zone, persistent convection over Arabian Sea and adjoining peninsular India and continued fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls for the last two days over the state.

An official release from the Department further says the northern limit of monsoon passes through Kozhikode and Tiruchirapalli.

Chief amounts of rainfall recorded over Kerala today ranges from one centimeter to 19 centimeter at various places. Many other parts of the state experienced light rainfall.

The forecast from IMD further adds that conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala.

Some more parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during next two-three days. (ANI)
