Microsoft To Rebrand Its Windows Live Search As ‘Kumo’

Microsoft To Rebrand Its Windows Live Search As ‘Kumo’According to web reports, Technology giant Microsoft has decided to rebrand and relaunch its search engine ‘Live Search’.

There are rumors that Microsoft will rebrand the Live Search as ‘Kumo’ by early next year (2009).

The report also said that the new name ‘Kumo’ was already transferred from registrar to Microsoft, and now Kumo.com points to a Microsoft’s internal test site.

According to the same report, a “final” decision has been taken, but few people in the company are aware of the chosen name of it and it could still change.

Since Microsoft has decided to drop its bid for Yahoo's search business and perk up its concentration on revitalizing its own Live Search engine as an attempt to grasp more market share in search domain dominated by Google.

At the Search Marketing Expo conference earlier this year, Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft's platforms and services division, had hinted the possibility of a name change of the "Live" brand.

The Live Search brand, introduced in 2005, had put back MSN Search during 2006 and then it experienced a major technical update in 2006.

Despite all these efforts Live Search, managed to grab just 11% of the search market, whereas Google holds more than 60%.

Now when the brand ‘Live’ is not that lively for the software giant, it is thinking of the possibility of the Japanese word ‘Kumo’, which means ‘cloud’ or ‘spider.’

Would the 'spider' be able to weave a strong web over the cyber space dominated by Google? Could this 'cloud' cast its shadow over the Google landscapes?
