Mercedes-Benz approves development of new engine family
Premium auto maker, Mercedes-Benz has approved plans to develop a new engine family to power models that will be launched by the year 2015.
According to a report by Car magazine, the new Mercedes-Benz models will be driven by new, low-cost, four-cylinder engines, and straight sixes. The engine will come in single as well as twin-turbo form and will replace the current V6 petrol and diesel engines and a new, turbocharged four-litre V8 engine, which in turn will replace V8.
The Mercedes-Benz COMAND system was seen as a new advanced system but is now struggling to compete with other infotainment systems. The company's new @yourCOMAND system is aiming to change that and bring the system ahead.
The company says that @yourCOMAND stands for seamless experience, natural handling, sensory perfection, and remote experience. The system will include a screen that can be controlled by gestures, in the future. The company will also release new technologies like Near Field Communication (NFC), which will debut in models in 2013. The automaker will release apps compatible with iPhone next year and expand to other platforms later. Mercedes already offers remote communication to vehicles via its MBrace and Send2Benz feature.
Meanwhile, Daimler has released details about a new Mercedes Benz model, which will be manufactured at the U. S. plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and will be released only in 2015. The new model will be a fresh car and will be fifth in production. The company is investing 350 million towards production of the new Mercedes Benz model, a move that will result in the creation of 400 jobs at the plant, which also produced the 2012 M-Class, GL-Class, and R-Class SUVS. The plant will also produce C-Class Sedan in early 2014.
