Maruti's Manesar plant to start churning out 850 vehicles a day
India's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) expects its plant located in Manesar, where it recently resumed production following a violent riot, will start producing to 850 vehicles per day soon.
The company believes that the plant will churn out 850 vehicles per day during the first half of September and the company is likely to take more time to return to the pre-riot production level of about 1,700 vehicles a day, according to company Chairman Osamu Suzuki.
"We want to produce about 800 to 850 vehicles in the first half of this month. As of September 4, we have reached 670 vehicles, so this is likely. I think we will see some delay in the timing of the factory going back to full operation," said Mr. Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki and resumed work at the factory in August following the devastating riots in July. A riot by workers that left Awanish Kumar Dev, General Manager HR dead in a fire accident and resulted in 90 employees being jailed, is likely to affect the company's operations and disrupt supplies of models.
The workers at the factory resorted t rioting after disciplinary incident with a single employee.
Several people were reportedly injured, including the company's Japanese officials and a part of the assembly line was burnt. The company faced a lengthy shutdown that resulted in disruption of supplies for its models including Swift, which is being produced at the plant.
