Maruti Suzuki running 30% above capacity
The India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki is currently working at a 30% above level its total capacity with a view to fulfil the ever-rising demand of the consumers in the Indian automotive market. In fact, the company has an installed capacity of 700,000-750,000 but the aim is to produce much higher, 1.1 to 1.6 million cars in the next fiscal.
According to the data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Indian arm, of Suzuki Motor Company produced 931,724 vehicles between April 2009 and February 2010, a 35% increase as compared to the corresponding period last year.
However, the company has announced to increase its capacity base from 250,000 autos to 550,000 in the next two years at its Manesar unit.
Notably, the company recently touched a milestone of one million unit sales in a fiscal year being the first Indian automaker to do so. With one million units in the bank, Maruti has joined the league of GM, Toyota, Suzuki and the other automakers who have already sold more than one million cars globally.
