Maruti Suzuki India reports 5 per cent fall in May auto salesOne of India’s leading automaker, Maruti Suzuki India has said that it has reported a fall of 5 per cent in auto sales during the month of May.

The company’s sales fell 5 per cent to 98,884 units compared to the same month in the previous year. The company’s domestic sales fell 4.3 per cent to 89,478 units and its passenger vehicle sales fell 5.9 per cent to 72,309 units.

Maruti is the market leader in the entry-level mini segment and offers vehicles at various pricing range. The fall in sales shows a falling consumer confidence and a slowdown in demand in the industry, which was been affected due to high price of fuel and high cost of financing vehicles for the consumers. It is estimated that the sales of the Maruti-800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR has fallen by as much as 29 per cent to 29895 during the month of May.

The total exports of Maruti Suzuki India fell 10.9 per cent to 9,406 units during the month. The shares of the company were trading at Rs 1,109.05, up about 0.23 per cent this morning at the time for reporting after touching an intraday high of Rs 1,118.80 and an intraday low of Rs 1,101 yet.
