Maruti has big plans for Gurgaon plant too

Maruti-Suzuki-LogoMaruti Suzuki, on Wednesday, said that it has decided to invest more in its Gurgaon plant, which will produce more K-series petrol engines. As per the current estimations, the auto maker will put in Rs. 1,250 crore to increase its capacity to 500,000 units by 2012.

Just yesterday, it became the first automaker to touch the millionth mark in India. Maruti also came up with an Rs. 12,000 crore investment plan for its Manesar unit.

But with the new declaration, it would surely cross that level. The money declared will be used for capacity expansion and also technological upgradations.

Talking about this investment, Osamu Suzuki, Chairman and CEO, Suzuki Motor Corp said that it would put in Rs. 2,500 crore in R&D and K-series engine expansion. As much as 50 per cent of the money will go for the K-series segment.

Osamu Suzuki, during his visit to India, said that the competition in the Indian market is going up every now and then. And thus, it would be very tough to tell when the company may be able to reach the two millionth level.

But, for achieving this, it needs K-series which is used in most of its latest cars.
