Major TB victims found in India and ChinaIt is close to half of the population suffering from TB as the 2008 reports suggest are found in India and China, says a report from World Health Organization (WHO).

The figure which is close to 4,40,000 cases of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis cause a panicky situation across the globe. The WHO’s Multi-drug and Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis-2010, Global Report on Surveillance and Response quotes that the Asian countries are feeling the pain the most the in numbers, with respect to the epidemic.

Approximately 50% of the MDR-TB cases are propounded in China and India. Dr L S Chauhan, Deputy Director in the Health Ministry’s TB Division blames this irresponsible behavior to the negligence shown in treatment.

It is further stated that on an average 1.9 million new cases are detected every year, out of which 30 percent cases refuse treatment. Also, as they are mainly from migratory population group, they escape the full courses adding to the population of TB victims.
