Washington  - A 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook Chile Thursday evening, the US Geological Survey in Washington said.

The quake occurred off shore about 75 kilometres north of port city Valparaiso and 145 kilometres north-west of the capital, Santiago, at 2119 GMT.

It was at a depth of 35 kilometres, USGS said. (dpa)
