Largest ever opening of a Bollywood film for Chandni Chowk to China
Chandni Chowk to China, the first Bollywood movie to be produced by Warner Bros’ is making a gala opening in the US and Canada. The film will be released in more than 125 screens in more than 50 markets on 16 Jan.
The film is the first-ever Bollywood kung-fu comedy. It traces the journey of a simple cook to kung-fu fighter. While showing the transformation, the director, takes the viewers to locales in by-lanes of Chandni Chowk in Delhi to the grandeur of the Great Wall of China and beyond.
The stunts in the film are choreographed by stunt coordinator Huen Chiu-Ku. He has to his credits films like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', 'Kill Bill: Vols. 1 and 2' and 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor'.
At the premiere of the film in the US Akshay Kumar, the lead actor said, 'Chandni Chowk...' as a "pure Bollywood story."
"If you are fans of Manmohan Desai, this is that kind of a film," he said.
Deepika Padukone, the female star against Akshay in the film also joined him at the press conference. She plays a double role of Sakhi, an Indian woman and Meow Meow, a Chinese martial arts expert. She had to undergo six months training in martial arts for her role of the Chinese woman.
