Lagarde warns against withdrawing stimulus

Lagarde warns against withdrawing stimulusChristine Lagarde, the chief of the International Monetary Fund has warned that it might be too soon with withdraw stimulus packages as they are still required specially in some regions including Europe and Japan.

Lagarde asked the central banks not to consider withdrawing their stimulus packages too soon. The global economy has started recovering and there has been a lot of debate about when to start withdrawing fiscal stimulus packages deployed to avoid a complete collapse of the economy. Ms Lagarde said she did not suggest a "rush to the exit" as some economies still remain fragile.

The US Federal Reserve has already indicated that it may start rolling back its monthly bond buying programme as the economy records stable recovery. The indication of a roll back of the stimulus package in the US affected stock markets and currencies around the world. Lagarde said simulative measures are still required in some economies to maintain the volatile recovery and said that the withdrawal must be determined by the strength of individual economies.

"Unconventional monetary policy is still needed in all places it is being used, albeit longer for some than for others,'' Ms Lagarde said.
