JPMorgan resumes settlement talks with US authorities

JPMorgan resumes settlement talks with US authoritiesUS financial giant, JPMorgan Chase & Co has said that it has resumed talks with the US as authorities in order to settle claims relating to mortgages.

JPMorgan Chase has said that it has paid $1 billion in order to settle government investigations during the previous week but it still has some outstanding issues with the federal authorities. The largest bank in the country is getting ready for a lawsuit from federal prosecutors in California that accuse the bank of misleading customers into buying mortgage securities ahead of the financial crisis. The case, which is expected this week, could be in a series of other lawsuits against the bank for its actions before the mortgage crisis.

The government informed JPMorgan that it is planning to file a complaint against the bank in Sacramento, Philadelphia and Washington, according to the people closer to the matter. The bank tried to settle the $6 billion claim by the Federal Housing Finance Agency and an investigation by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman earlier. The settlements, which is expected to be finalised this week, will allow the US giant to move ahead of the previous year's $6 billion and also repair its damaged relationship with the regulates.
