Amman - The Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's largest political party, has sent a congratulatory message to US President Barack Obama suggesting the bases upon which the new administration can bring about a "positive change" in ties with the Arab and Islamic worlds, an IAF statement said Thursday.

"We extend a hand yearning for an even-handed relationship (with the United States) based on justice, fairness and a world dominated with mutual respect and dialogue among cultures and civilizations," the IAF Secretary General Zaki Bani Ershaid said in the letter.

"We have been pleased over your determination to effect a change, and your declaration during the election campaign about your ability to do so by choosing the slogan 'Yes We Can'. We too say: Yes We Can and we are coming," Bani Ershaid said.

"The shortest road for fulfilling the dream of change in our region is openness and dialogue with the political forces which represent the peoples in our Islamic world," he added.

Bani Ershaid pointed out that two factors helped to fan up hatred against the United States in the Arab and Islamic worlds - the blind bias towards Israel and Washington's aligning with the despotic regimes in the region who said "stood on the wrong side of history."

The IAF, the political arm of the influential Muslim Brotherhood movement, is the main opposition group in Jordan. (dpa)
