Jharkhand Governor launches Tata Power's plant at Jamshedpur
The Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Syed Sibtey Razi inaugurated a gas based 1X120 MW power project by Industrial Energy, a joint venture company promoted by Tata Power and Tata Steel.
The first steam and power generating unit, based on waste gas inside Tata Steel Works, would meet the ever increasing power needs of company’s Jamshedpur plant by supplying entire Green Power generated from the unit.
This first-of-its-kind power plant has been equipped with all safety standards prescribed by the DuPont safety regulations to expedite expansion plans of Tata's existing projects. The firm has set a target to achieve 10MT production by April 2011 from the plant by optimum use of the additional available blast furnace gas for power generation, thus, putting its due contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Managing Director of Tata Power Company, Mr. Prasad R. Menon said, “The plant is another feather in Tata Power cap as it was not only completed in the stipulated time frame of 34 months but also is a green power plant which reiterates our commitment of reducing our carbon footprints by generating and providing clean energy.”
