Tokyo - Japanese cabinet resigns with Taro Aso poised to become prime ministerThe Japanese Cabinet resigned Wednesday ahead of Taro Aso taking the reins of government as the country's new prime minister.

Newly elected as leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Aso, 68, is expected to be voted into the premiership later Wednesday by the Japanese House of Representatives.

The LDP holds a majority in the lower chamber of Parliament.

The change in leadership follows the September 1 resignation of Yasuo Fukuda, who served as prime minister for less than a year. (dpa)
