It was a heart attack, confirms Cheney’s officeThe office of former U. S. Vice President Dick Cheney confirmed on Tuesday that suffered a mild heart attack.

According to CNN reports, Cheney, 69, was said by family members to be in good spirits Tuesday at George Washington University Hospital Monday. His office issued a statement saying Cheney is expected to be discharged "in the next day or two."

The statement further said," Lab testing revealed evidence of a mild heart attack. He underwent a stress test and a heart catheterization."

CNN also said that during catheterization, a thin plastic tube is inserted into an artery or vein in the arm or leg and then into the chambers of the heart or into coronary arteries. The procedure is designed to measure blood pressure within the heart and the amount of oxygen in the blood.

It was fifth heart attack for Cheney. He had four heart attacks between 1978 and 2000, and surgeons in 2001 implanted a cardioverter defibrillator, which can detect cardiac arrhythmia and uses a jolt of electricity to correct it.

A source told CNN that the former vice president received telephone calls Tuesday from well wishers including former President George W. Bush and Vice President Joe Biden. (With Input from Agencies)
