ISS Astronauts will have Weightless Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a great US holiday during which families and friends get together for a special meal. But astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) will not celebrate the day like people here on earth. They will have a weightless Thanksgiving.
Before a Thanksgiving dinner, two American astronauts, Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren, will have a nice relaxing day. To make the day more special, they will watch a football match and call their families and friends.
The NASA astronauts said although they are far from their families, they are not too upset. The US space agency has released a video where astronaut Lindgren is seen wishing people on earth a Happy Thanksgiving from the space station. The astronaut said, “We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be up here on the ISS working and living in this amazing orbiting laboratory, a physical manifestation of what is possible when the great countries of the world work together with communication, cooperation and collaboration toward peaceful means”.
In the video, the astronaut said being on ISS and looking at earth gives different perspective on what it feels like to be an individual belongs to the planet. Astronauts on the ISS see all of humanity without any borders, as per Lindgren.
While the ISS crew members will not be able to be in their homes with their families for the celebration, they are given extra time to speak with their family members. Adding to that, they will have big meal of their own.
