Iraq's al-Maliki discusses elections with his Jordanian counterpartAmman  - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi conferred Thursday with his Iraqi counterpart Nuri al-Maliki about general elections in his neighbouring country on Jaqnuary 30, according to an official statement.

Al-Maliki stopped over in Amman on his way back home from a visit to the United States.

"Jordan considers the Iraqi elections an important landmark in the political process in Iraq and urges the participation of all shades of the Iraqi political spectrum in the polling process to ensure that it reflects the will and unity of the Iraqi people," the statement from the premier's office quoted Dahabi as saying.

From his part, al-Maliki briefed his Jordanian counterpart on the outcome of his visit to the United States, it added.

The two officials also discussed boosting bilateral ties in the political, economic and trade spheres, stressing the need for implementing all agreements that had been concluded between the two countries.

What is at stake are mainly a security cooperation agreement and an accord for supplying Jordan with Iraqi crude oil. (dpa)
