Iranian TV says satellite successfully accomplished mission
Tehran - Iran's first domestically produced satellite has ended its test and successfully accomplished its seven-week mission, state television reported Thursday.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had on February 3 ordered the launching of Omid (Hope) satellite which caused concern in the West as the capability of launching satellites would also enable Iran to launch ballistic missiles.
Ahmadinejad categorically rejected all concerns and worry in the West and said that Omid was "just a messenger of peace and justice" and serving scientific and not military projects.
According to the television report, Omid completed his mission without any technical errors and would remain in space for another 38 days. (dpa)
