Iran-UN nuclear talks end in Tehran

Iran-UN nuclear talks end in TehranTehran  - Two-day talks between Iran and the United Nations nuclear watchdog ended Friday in Tehran, ISNA news agency reported.

The chief inspector of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Oli Heinonen, and the head of the Iranian Atomic Organization Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh and his deputy Mohammad Saeidi discussed on Thursday and Friday the remaining ambiguities over Tehran's nuclear projects and the course of future cooperation.

"The talks were constructive and held in an atmosphere of bilateral understanding. It was decided that talks would continue in the future," Saeidi told ISNA after the meeting.

Heinonen and his team will depart Tehran for Vienna later Friday night.

The two-day talks were of a technical nature and did not deal with political issues, such as whether Iran would accept the latest offer by the world powers to suspend uranium enrichment in return for political and economic incentives.

"The talks were just about the current relations between Iran and the IAEA," Saeidi said.

Tehran has not yet reacted to Friday's European Union decision to bring into legal force last March's UN Security Council sanctions on Iran in the dispute over its nuclear programme.

Tehran has said its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, but the United States and other Western nations want further guarantees that the Islamic state is not pursuing a secret weapons programme. (dpa)
