Iran, IAEA conclude talks in Tehran, outcome not yet known
Tehran - A visiting delegation from the United Nations nuclear watchdog and Iranian nuclear officials ended their two-day talks in Tehran on Tuesday with the outcome not yet made public, reports said.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) delegation, headed by Olli Heinonen began talks with the Iranian side on Monday over allegations that Iran would pursue secret weapons studies.
Heinonen is to leave Tehran on early Wednesday, the official news agency IRNA said.
IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei circulated a progress report on the investigation last February, saying that questions remained on alleged weaponization studies, including high explosives testing, the uranium refining processing stage known as "green salt," and the design of a missile re-entry vehicle.
Tehran has played down Heinonen's visit as routine and within the framework of Tehran-IAEA cooperation and again rejected as baseless Western allegations of non-peaceful nuclear projects.
The West fears that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons which Tehran denies, insisting its nuclear programme is peaceful and aimed at generating electricity.
The United Nations Security Council has already issued three resolutions against Iran, including sanctions, for defying the suspension of its nuclear programmes, especially the uranium enrichment process. (dpa)
