Insurer AIG reports loss of nearly 100 billion dollars

AIG logoNew York  - US insurer AIG on Monday reported a loss in 2008 of 99.3 billion dollars, including red ink of 61.7 billion in the fourth quarter alone.

The fourth quarter loss compares to a 5.29-billion-dollar loss in the same period a year earlier, AIG said. The firm blamed continued severe credit market deterioration and charges related to ongoing restructuring activities."

AIG along with banking concern Citigroup is among the biggest losers in the world financial crisis. (dpa)
