Infant strapped with bombs used at Benazir’s October 18 rally
Karachi, Nov 20 (ANI): An infant that was strapped with bombs was used to carry out the October 18 bombing on former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming rally in which over 170 were killed, sources have said.
A man, carrying this infant, tried several times to hand over the child either to Benazir or any other Pakistan People’s Party leader close to her, but something always prevented him from reaching close by, The News quoted the sources, as saying.
“At the point on Sharea Faisal where the bombs exploded, Benazir saw the man with the child and asked him to come closer so that she could hug or kiss the infant. But someone came in between and a guard felt that the man with the child was not behaving normally, ” the daily reported.
Benazir also thinks that the explosion in the police van near her truck was caused by the infant who had bombs strapped all over the body, a PPP leader said.
He went on to say that he had told her party men that Benazir could recognize the face of the man carrying the infant and has requested several TV channels and camerapersons to provide her the recordings so that she could identify the bomber.
“That is why Benazir has been demanding that the probe must be conducted by the FBI or the Scotland Yard so that she could provide them with the evidence, ” a PPP source said.
The PPP leaders are of opinion that the car, which exploded near her truck, was a planted bomb and somehow security agencies had left it parked for unexplained reasons.
“We saw at least 16 bodies with their decapitated heads on the spot and so it was impossible to claim that it was only a suicide bombing, ” the PPP sources said. (ANI)
