India's Sensex gains on industrial growth data
New Delhi - India's benchmark Sensex index closed 2.3 per cent up Monday buoyed by the country's robust industrial growth figures.
The 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 384.01 points to close at 17,026.67.
Brokers said India recording a 22-month high industrial growth of 10.4 per cent in August boosted trading sentiment.
The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended in the positive terrain, gaining 77.1 points or 1.54 per cent, to close at 5,083.96.
On the Sensex, investors snapped up heavyweight stocks like the State Bank of India and Reliance Industries. Gainers swamped losers 27 to 3, with those losing ground affected by profit-taking. (dpa)
