India's Reliance Communications acquires Britain's Vanco

New Delhi - India's second biggest telecom firm Reliance Communications on Monday announced that it had acquired Britain's telecom carrier Vanco for 3.27 billion rupees (77 million dollars).

The acquisition was made through its subsidiary Reliance Globalcom and will enhance the unit's annual revenues by 365 million dollars through long-term contracts.

"The acquisition of VANCO is in line with Reliance Globalcom's vision to create one of the top five global data communications enterprises in the world," said Anil Ambani, chairman, Reliance Communications.

"The combination of Reliance Globalcom's extensive capabilities and VANCO's unique global experience would create a new breed of integrated services communications powerhouse," he added.

VANCO is recognized as the world's top five managed global network players with over 220 MNC (multi-national company) customers including AVIS, British Airways, Siemens, Virgin Megastores and will increase Reliance Globalcom's enterprise customers to more than 1,400.

Reliance Globalcom spearheads the global telecom operations of the Reliance Communications. The company serves more than 1,200 enterprises, 200 carriers and 1.5 million retail customers in 50 countries across five continents. (dpa)
