India's exports grew 4.25% in February

India's exports grew 4.25% in FebruaryAccording to the latest figures released, the total exports from Indian increased 4.25 per cent during the month of February to $26.26 billion.

Commerce secretary SR Rao said that the situation has improved in Europe and that there is a slight increase in demand for the products form the country. The data also showed that the overseas shipments stood at $25.19 billion during the month of February. Various sectors recorded increase in exports form the country including engineering goods, textiles, rice, oil meals, pharmaceutical and chemicals.

On other hand, the total imports into the country increased 2.6 per cent to $41.1 billion, translating into a trade deficit of $14.92 billion for the month. The data also pointed out that the exports from April to February period fell 4 per cent to $265.95 billion. Imports during this period grew just 0.25 per cent to $448 billion, leading to a trade deficit of $182.1 billion during the 11 month period.

"Certainly the fall in exports seems to have been arrested. We are seeing a small recovery. Trade deficit is also likely to go down now as exports rise," said S. R. Rao. He was speaking at a media event where the trade figures were released on Monday.
