Indian, English security officials inspect Mohali Cricket Stadium

Mohali/Chandigarh, Dec 10: Security has been beefed up in Mohali ahead of the second cricket Test match between India and England, as six persons were arrested with explosives in nearby Chandigarh city.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Security Advisor Reg Dickason, who assessed the security arrangements at the Stadium with the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) officials and security agencies, said that a a detailed meeting would take place on Wednesday.

PCA President I S Bindra asserted that ECB had suggested Mohali as the venue for the second Test match and there was no doubt about hosting the match there.

"There is no other venue under consideration. Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and ECB want the match to be played in Mohali," said Bindra.

Meanwhile, six Nepali citizens were detained by the Chandigarh Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), for being in possession of explosives which they intended to smuggle out of the State.

The police nabbed them at inter-state bus terminal.

However, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, S. S Srivastava said that preliminary investigations revealed that these men did not have intent of any terror act and also did not seem to belong to any terror outfit.

"There is no terrorist angle among them. Nor they look like that. They look like labourers in the investigations," said Srivastava.

He also added that the nabbed men seemed to have stolen these explosives from a stone crushing plant where they used to work and wanted to sell them at the destination where they were supposed to go in Uttarakhand. (ANI)
