India to set up 6,000 model schoolsThe Union Government will set up 6,000 Model Schools on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools). Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the scheme on Thursday.

The scheme aims to have at least one good quality secondary school in every block.

In the first phase of the scheme, 2,500 Model Schools will come up in the first phase of the scheme. Those will be established in Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) with the help of respective state governments. State Govt. will provide land for the schools.

"A model school will have infrastructure and facilities, at least of the standard as in a Kendriya Vidyalaya and with stipulations on pupil-teacher ratio, ICT (information, communication and technology) usage, holistic educational environment, appropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome," a CCEA statement said.

The total estimate for setting schools is calculated to be Rs.93.21bn, of which estimated central share is Rs.74.57bn.

The scheme will be implemented from the current financial year.
