‘Immigrants To Canada’ Have Higher Risk Of Death

According to the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, the immigrants who come to Canada for the better life have the higher risk of death due to stress of settling down in a new country.

Researchers from the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver conducted a study on 618 Canadian residents, in which 460 were immigrants. The narrowing of artery was compared by the researchers and they found that most of the migrants, who stayed longer in Canada, started building more plague in their arteries.

Lear said in a TV interview: “We found that immigrants who spent a longer time in Canada actually had a thickening of their artery walls, which puts them at greater risk of heart disease and stroke.” Among new immigrants these arteries narrow faster than among other groups and raise the risk of death from a heart stroke, he said.

He said, “We think it has something to do with the challenges of coming to a new country, establishing a financial base, getting a job, getting shelter doing those things to get settled and maybe putting health on the back burner.”

The Conference Board of Canada released a study on Tuesday which shows the poor health report of Canadians. The country got ‘B’ rating on the basis of overall health of population. Within 16 countries, Canada got 10th rank.
