IHCL yet to take decision on Orient-Express bid
Tata Group-owned Indian Hotels Co Ltd (IHCL) on Thursday confirmed that it board hadn't decided on whether or not to revise its bid to acquire US-listed luxury hotel group Orient-Express Hotels Ltd.
Last year, Indian Hotels had placed a $1.2 billion unsolicited bid to acquire Orient-Express, which operates Venice-based Hotel Cipriani and New York-based `21' Club; but the US-listed hotel chain turned down the offer saying it was too cheap.
The Indian company was widely expected to place a revised bid, but IHCL Executive Finance Director Anil Goel yesterday said no decision was taken in that regard yet.
Speaking on the topic, Goel declared, "The board has not yet taken a decision on the Orient-Express bid. Different options are open to us."
IHCL yesterday also announced that it suffered a net loss of Rs 338.90 crore during the three months ended March 31, against a net profit of Rs 65.21 crore in the corresponding three-month period of the previous fiscal year.
Total sales dropped from Rs 560.15 crore in the January-March quarter of 2012 to Rs 555.83 crore in the same quarter of 2013.
IHCL shares ended Thursday's trading nearly unchanged at Rs 52.90 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
