I Won’t Campaign For Any Party In Upcoming Elections, Says Big B
Bollywood legend and former MP Amitabh Bachchan would not campaign for any party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
At a promotional event for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards, Big B said, “I’m not a politician. I won't campaign.”
The 66-year-old actor, who got selected to the Lok Sabha from the Congress party in 1984, is a close friend of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
While answering a question whether he would support or oppose any political party as an individual, he said that he won’t like to remark on anything that would be later misread or misinterpreted by some people.
Mr. Bachchan left active politics two decades back.
But his wife, Jaya Bachchan, is a member of the Rajya Sabha, having been selected by the Samajwadi Party.
Bachchan also refused media reports that his daughter-in-law, actress Aishwarya Rai, had been offered an election ticket.
On this, he said, “There was no such plan.”
India will hold polling for electing a new Union government and the
next Lok Sabha would be held between April 16 and May 13. Counting will
be held on 16 May. By the morning of 17 May, a new Lok Sabha – India’s
15th – will have taken shape.
The 714-million-strong voters are
likely to vote in the 2009 elections in secret balloting using over a
million electronic voting machines.
