HP’s Windows 7 slate to take on Apple’s iPad
Just hours after Apple released its first iPad commercial during the live telecast of the Academy awards; HP released a video of its new touch screen tablet, the Slate.
Taking a jibe on Apple's iPad, which cannot support Flash, the HP's Slate will run on the Windows 7 operating system and can run Flash-based sites or videos.
Without giving any details on pricing and availability, Phil McKinney, Chief Technology Officer for HP's Personal System Group, wrote in his blog, "With this slate product, you're getting a full web browsing experience in the palm of your hand. No watered-down internet, no sacrifices". But the company has said that it will be available some time this year.
Players in the meantime are scrambling to offer tablet devices, since iPad made its debut in January as they feel it could be the future of an ultimate web browsing.
Meanwhile, in an another development Hewlett-Packard has sued MicroJet Technology - a Taiwanese maker of printer ink cartridges, and three other companies alleging their products infringe its patents.
