Hong Kong, Bangkok and Macau lead the top 10 destinations for 2019: Euromonitor International Research
Euromonitor International has published a report with top 100 travel destinations across the world. The list features many cities from Asia but India is lagging behind in the list of top travel destinations. The Euromonitor study covers overseas visitors, or "arrivals", who stay longer than 24 hours and less than one year in over 400 cities.
Hong Kong remained the top destination with 26.7 million international visitors. The reason for high number of visitors could also be due to easy on-arrival visas. Hong Kong is also a major airline hub with many connecting flights.
Bangkok ranks after Hong Kong with 25.8 million international visitors. Macau welcomed 20.6 million visitors. Macau is popular as entertainment and casino destination in the East. As Chinese government has planned to turn Macau into gambling and entertainment destination, many people from nearby regions visit Macau.
Singapore registered 19.8 million international travelers.
Among European cities, London registered 19.6 million international arrivals. London was followed closely by Paris with 19.1 million visitors.
Dubai featured among the top destinations in the Gulf with 16.3 million international visitors. New Delhi is the only Indian city featuring in the top destinations with 15.2 million visitors.
Istanbul welcomed 14.7 million visitors, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 14.1 million visitors.
