Honda recalling 820,000 Civic sedans and Pilot SUVs over headlight issue

Honda recalling 820,000 Civic sedans and Pilot SUVs over headlight issueIn a move which marks an expansion of Honda's March recall of vehicles due to a low-beam headlight wiring issue, the automaker has revealed that it is now recalling as many as 820,000 Civic compact cars and Pilot SUVs because of the possibility of the vehicle's low-beam headlights failing.

According to the information shared by Honda, the recall - which happens to the second big expansion of an earlier recall in recent times - will affect the 2002-2003 model-year Civic sedans, and the 2004-2005 model-year Pilot SUVs.

Elaborating on the reason for the recall of the Civics and Pilots of the mentioned model-years, Honda said that the low-beam headlights of the recall-affected vehicles can apparently fail to work because of the overheating and melting of the wires that connect the switch controlling the headlights and turning the signals.

In a statement, Honda specified that a "potential failure with the wiring of the headlight switch ... may cause the low-beam headlights to become inoperative" in the Civics and Pilots being recalled.

Despite the fact that Honda added in the statement that there have thus far been no reports of crashes or injuries resulting from the low-beam issue affecting the Civics and Pilots being recalled, it also said that the problem can "increase the risk of a crash."
